For more than 25 years Dr. Michael S. Parr has been actively involved in the treatment of clients suffering from alcohol and chemical dependency, doing individual, group and family therapy. In 2006 Dr. Michael S. Parr opened a private practice for alcohol/chemical dependency evaluation and treatment. Previously, Dr. Parr had practiced obstetrics and gynecology for over 25 years.
Dr. Parr was the founder and medical director of Mercy Perinatal Recovery Network, an outpatient program for addicted pregnant women. He served on the California Medical Board’s Physician’s Diversion Program as the Chair of the Diversion Evaluation Committee from 1994 until 2002 (reappointed for three years in 2005). In addition, he was appointed by State Senator John Burton to the California Bar Oversight Committee for the Lawyers Assistance Program. He also served as a medical and after-care consultant for the National Basketball Association in its player assistance program.
Since 2008, Dr. Parr has been certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He is certified to provide Buprenorphine/Suboxone outpatient treatment for opiate (Vicodin, Percodan and Oxycontin, heroin) withdrawal, which requires careful supervision by a physician.
Dr. Parr currently serves on the Diversion Evaluation Committee for the California Board of Registered Nurses. Dr. Parr also serves as a California Society of Addiction Medicine evaluator, allowing him to conduct comprehensive professional and fitness-for-duty evaluations.
